Set in the Mountain West, this modern mountain retreat embraces both the drama of its setting and the rhythm of its owners’ active lifestyle. Designed as a refined sanctuary, the home balances bold modernity with a deep connection to the rugged terrain, offering a touchpoint to experience the valley’s sweeping vistas and distant peaks. Upon arrival, the home presents as a discreet, single-story dwelling, but beyond the threshold, the structure unfurls into two levels, cascading toward the valley floor. Conceived as a simple broken line, the horseshoe-shaped plan carves into the hillside, allowing nature to spill inward to the central courtyard, which provides a serene counterpoint to the vast expanse beyond. This sense of duality—shelter and exposure, intimacy and grandeur—defines the spirit of the home.

Every space is attuned to its surroundings, from the living room’s framed panoramas to the infinity-edge pool that traces the horizon. An exterior material palette of board-formed concrete, shou sugi ban cedar, and warm hemlock echoes the land’s rugged elegance. Interiors designed by CLB include Douglas fir flooring and ceilings treated with a soft whitewash to establish a calming, natural palette. Custom CLB-designed furnishings, including a 20-foot-long organic-shaped kitchen island and a serpentine leather sofa, infuse the space with personality, transforming it into a livable gallery. At once grounded and elevated, this family home offers a sanctuary that is as dynamic as the land itself.
