The Lone Mountain Land Company (LMLC) project is a 19,270-square-foot mixed-use building located in the Big Sky Town Center at the main intersection in the developing meadows of Big Sky, Montana. The site has prominent views of Lone Peak and surrounding mountains.

Modern rustic lodge or showroom interior with a long wooden desk and polished concrete floor. A prominent display wall showcases outdoor lifestyle products, ski gear, and mountain landscape photography. Exposed ductwork, wooden beams, and large windows with views of trees and distant mountains complete the contemporary design.

The client desired a modern design with clean lines while adhering to the Big Sky design guidelines. Other considerations required that every elevation of the building be approachable with no hidden or “back sides.” The first level of the building includes retail space, a cafe and real estate sales while the second level houses offices for the Lone Mountain Land Company.

Exposed timber framing with stone and wood siding is seen on the exterior along with bonderized metal and black steel accents. The materials palette mimics surrounding buildings in order to remain grounded in its context. However, the materials are used in a way that helps express the different building volumes while tying the structure together as a whole.
