Alta Ridge is located on a hillside tract near Big Sky with views to Lone Peak.  The client’s are a Chicago family with young children seeking a sustainable mountain enclave defined by the natural landscape. Four buildings comprise the compound including a main house, activity barn, and two guest cabins.  The activity barn will store equipment and vehicles, serve as a staging area for adventures, and provide space for family gatherings and corporate retreats. Design challenges include siting the house within a small footprint while navigating the steep site, multiple wetlands, and varied programmatic requirements. Materials reference the sustainable goals for the project and include reclaimed timber, steel, and concrete.
